Menelik Holt giving the 2009 Huskers a new dimension.
the Secondary being a plus in 2009.
a grim year ahead for Kansas State.
Sam Bradford in a Detroit Lions uniform in 2009.
Bob Stoops in Norman in 2009.
Texas and Nebraska in the 2009 Big 12 Championship.

Ndamukong Suh being a Top 15 Draft Pick.
Texas pounding Ohio State back to the Stone Age.
Nebraska-Kansas as the top game in the Big 12 North in 2009.
another big recruiting commitment.
Statements:
Joe Ganz is a better QB than Chase Daniel. In fact, he has been for about two months.
Taylor Mays should of been kicked out of the Rose Bowl after his helmet-to-helmet hit.
Big 10 should be stripped of it’s automatic BCS berth.
Let’s end Pac-10-Big 10 Rose Bowl tie-in. It’s not
Shawn Watson deserves some criticism for sometimes having unimaginative and predictable play-calling, ‘cutesy,’ and too many Red Zone field goals. But overall he did a great job in 2008 and his offensive strategy of ball control was the backbone to the Huskers turnaround.

Stat line:Ndamukong Suh’s amazing performance against Kansas…
Filed Under Defense, Huskers Football, Ndamukong Suh | Leave a Comment
From Tim Griffin’s Helmet Stickers:
Nebraska DT/FB Ndamukong Suh — He might have produced the most unique statistical game in Big 12 history. Suh notched 12 tackles, including four for losses involving 2.5 sacks and a quarterback hurry to pace Nebraska’s 45-35 victory over Kansas. And for good measure, also snagged a 2-yard TD reception — his first career catch — to help boost the Cornhuskers’ fourth-quarter rally past the Jayhawks.

Bo Pelini puts his stamp on this season
Filed Under Big 12, Bo Pelini, Kansas | Leave a Comment
The victory over the Kansas Jayhawks, the same Kansas that embarrassed and destroyed Nebraska 76-39 last year, represents tangible progress and makes this season a undeniable success. It’s also the greatest triumph of Bo Pelini’s short tenure.
On top of that, the Huskers are progressing throughout the season and developing younger players. This bodes well for not only for the rest of the season, but 2009.
Because of Bo delivering the Huskers a bowl game, the Huskers will get an extra 15 practices, a game against a quality opponent, and a real chance to finish the season in the top 25 and start 2009 in the Top 25.
If you can’t get excited about that, then HG can’t help you.
We are all disappointed that the Huskers couldn’t pull out a victory against Texas Tech and Virginia Tech. We were all questioning the coaching staff after Oklahoma and Missouri, but after beating Kansas, the Huskers are poised to finish 2nd in the Big 12 North.
We came into Kansas as underdogs and some of us were expecting the worse. What we got was a team that in 7 days absorbed a soul-crushing loss at the hands of the Sooners and defeated a competitive Kansas team.
A tip of the hat goes to the players and the coaching staff for keeping the team focused on finishing the season strong.
Restoring the Order has taken a step forward.

Postgame Notes: Nebraska is now Bowl Eligible with 45-35 win over Kansas
Filed Under Kansas | Leave a Comment
In-depth analysis of the Huskers big bounce-back win over Kansas to come. In the meantime, here are some key postgame nuggets from the NU Media Relations Dept:
- With their sixth win of the season, Nebraska is now BOWL ELIGIBLE for the 38th time over the past 40 years.
- Junior defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh recorded a career-high 12 tackles (four tackles for loss), 2.5 sacks and one quarterback hurry. Oh, by the way, Suh also lined up at fullback in the middle of the 4th quarter and and caught his first career pass - a two-yard touchdown that put the Huskers up by 10 with under six minutes left.
- Roy Helu Jr had another terrific game, with two touchdowns, 115 yards rushing and 61 yards receving. Helu is now averaging an eye-popping 6.9 yards per carry on 82 attempts so far this season.
- QB Joe Ganz completed 28-of-37 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns
- Nebraska’s truly “all-purpose” running back Marlon Lucky had a four-yard touchdown pass to Mike McNeill in the 1st quarter. During his career, Lucky has completed 4-of-6 passes for 69 yards and four touchdowns, which works out to a tidy little passing efficiency rating of 383.27.
- Nebraska’s game captains against the Jayhawks: senior receiver Todd Peterson, senior offensive guard Matt Slauson, senior quarterback Joe Ganz and junior nose tackle Ndamukong Suh.
- Today’s victory guarantees that the Cornhuskers will finish the season with a winning home record for the 40th consecutive season.
- Temperatures hovered in the mid-30’s for much of the game, with cloudy skies and gusting winds reaching 20 mph.

With kickoff approaching in about 12 hours…
- This will be the first cold-weather game of the season for both teams. According to NTV, “the forecast calls for game-time temperatures in the low-40s and strong winds.”
- Huge props to Kansas student Bryan Wheeler of the University Daily Kansan for busting out this excellent statistical analysis. Wheeler points out, “In a span lasting more than three decades, legendary Nebraska coach Tom Osborne put a hurting on the Jayhawks year after year on his turf. In 12 trips to Lincoln, Kansas scored just 96 points. That’s three touchdowns more than Kansas scored against Nebraska in last year’s 76-39 blowout in Lawrence.” Wow.
- The Huskers are 4-2 at home this season
- Macon.com, our favorite random news source, says that, “Neither program possesses a defense worth mentioning and that should lead to a high scoring affair. Kansas appears to be a little more explosive than the Huskers and that should help it slip by on the road this weekend.” Predicted Outcome: Kansas 35, Nebraska 31
- Nebraska leads the overall series against Kansas 88-23-3
- Jim Dolezal of the Columbus Telegram, a self-described “Husker fanatic”, offers up this analysis, “Nebraska needs a great effort to defeat Kansas. The Jayhawks have a talented offense that can light up the scoreboard. Reesing is talented and knows how to win. I believe that Nebraska will get a spirited performance from the offense and make a play on special teams that will lead the Huskers to a 38-35 win over Kansas.”
- There are Two Huge Facts you must know about this game! First, Kansas kicked the living crap out of Nebraska last season in Lawrence 76-39. And second, Kansas hasn’t won in Nebraska since 1968.
- J. Brady McCollough of the Kansas City Star writes that, “Mangino will talk about the 2008 Cornhuskers, but he refuses to revisit the 2007 game, one of his program’s defining moments.”

Nebraska vs. Kansas - Can Nebraska pick up the pieces from the carnage?
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Husker Fans, this is going to be a very challenging opponent. We are not favorites in this game. We are underdogs and deservedly so.
Let’s be honest, this game could get ugly fast. Kansas is a better team and the Huskers will need a superior game plan, a little luck to pull this game out.
Also, make no mistake about it: this is going to be the Huskers last chance to defeat a quality team that is going bowling. A win this weekend would not only guarantee this season a success, it would also give the Huskers a “W” over a quality opponent.
The pulse in Lincoln right now is fearful after the OU disaster. Bo Pelini’s temperament has now become an issue (and a distraction) and some feel the coach blundered and let the players off the hook by not having them interviewed after the OU game.
The OU game will either be a downward spiral where the Huskers back into a bowl (or, GASP, they don’t get into a bowl), or the Huskers will completely forget the OU game, continue on the progress they’ve made this season, and go into a quality bowl game with some momentum and good feeling.
Right now, coaches are calling up the Huskers prospects and emailing the YouTube video of Bo Pelini. Don’t think that Husker recruits haven’t seen that game. It will be important for Bo to keep his composure if things get bad.
We love Bo and Huskers fans ought to give Pelini some slack and let him mature. Things aren’t going to be turned around overnight. We knew what we were getting into with Bo Pelini and so far he has lived up to our expectations, and confirmed some weakness we feared.
