Courtesy of our friends over at Sooners Gameday , Sam Bradford is going to enter the NFL Draft after tonight’s game.
This comes as a surprise to no one.
This clears the way for Texas to be the clear favorite in the Big 12 South in 2009 and makes the 2009 Nebraska-Oklahoma game a little less frightening.
Heck, if Ndamukong Suh comes back , we might take’em.
More Big 12 Draft News: Missouri WR Jeremy Maclin will announce Friday if he entering the NFL draft.
Take a wild guess what he is going to do:
Tags: Big 12, Big 12 South 2009, Jeremy Maclin, Mel Kiper Jr, Missouri, Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska-Oklahoma, NFL Draft, Sam Bradford, Sooners Gameday, Texas, Todd McShayDuring the regular season, Maclin said he would remain at Missouri unless he were projected as a first-round pick. Todd McShay of Scouts Inc. has Maclin going in the first round in his most recent mock draft, while Mel Kiper Jr. rates him No. 2 among all junior and redshirt sophomore wide receivers.

New Rules: College Football Edition (November 16th)
Filed Under Bo Pelini, ESPN Sucks, Huskers, Huskers Football, Steve Sipple | 3 Comments
New Rule: Turner Gill should be the new head coach of Syracuse. He already is the best coach in upstate New York so he ought get the best job in upstate New York.
New Rule: Steve Sipple should write something other than ‘this team is making progress but we aren’t quite there yet.’ Yes, we know that. In fact, Bo Pelini has met most Huskers expectations in the first year and we should celebrate 7-4.
New Rule: HG proclaims ESPN’s Mark May as the best college football analyst anywhere. The guy has a unbiased insight into college football that is an increasingly rare trait on the national stage. He gives props where props are due, and criticizes what should be criticized. No regional bias at all.
When Mark May praises the Huskers, then you’ll know theyve arrived.
New Rule: Charlie Weis getting a Gatorade bath for beating NAVY is pathetic. That’s like a Husker coach getting a Gatorade bath for beating Kansas! You’re supposed to beat Navy, you fools!
They are trying to protect the country first AND win football second. Your only mission is to win football games.
New Rule (Pro Football Edition): Football Night in America makes me long for the days of NFL Primetime. A bloated staff, lack of analysis during highlights, ’so serious’ music, pretentious “lights out b/c we are green” and a cast of characters depletes the talented Collinsworth and unspectacular Tiki Barber and Jerome Bettis.
Plus, Keith Olbermann has branded himself as a firebrand liberal opponent of the Bush administration. That’s fine. He’s allowed to take a stand. But that also means about 46% of the country’s blood pressure rises when they see him. That’s not what sports are about.
New Rule: College Football’s overtime system is superior to the NFL because of one reason: you get a result.

Bo Pelini puts his stamp on this season
Filed Under Big 12, Bo Pelini, Kansas | Leave a Comment
The victory over the Kansas Jayhawks, the same Kansas that embarrassed and destroyed Nebraska 76-39 last year, represents tangible progress and makes this season a undeniable success. It’s also the greatest triumph of Bo Pelini’s short tenure.
On top of that, the Huskers are progressing throughout the season and developing younger players. This bodes well for not only for the rest of the season, but 2009.
Because of Bo delivering the Huskers a bowl game, the Huskers will get an extra 15 practices, a game against a quality opponent, and a real chance to finish the season in the top 25 and start 2009 in the Top 25.
If you can’t get excited about that, then HG can’t help you.
We are all disappointed that the Huskers couldn’t pull out a victory against Texas Tech and Virginia Tech. We were all questioning the coaching staff after Oklahoma and Missouri, but after beating Kansas, the Huskers are poised to finish 2nd in the Big 12 North.
We came into Kansas as underdogs and some of us were expecting the worse. What we got was a team that in 7 days absorbed a soul-crushing loss at the hands of the Sooners and defeated a competitive Kansas team.
A tip of the hat goes to the players and the coaching staff for keeping the team focused on finishing the season strong.
Restoring the Order has taken a step forward.

Nebraska’s loss to OU: It is what it is…
Filed Under Uncategorized | 1 Comment
First, HG tips its hat to Bob Stoops and his talented OU squad.
We got our ass kicked by one of the best teams in the country at their home stadium.
What are you going to do about it?
There is no reason to get upset or angry about it.
We had this chalked up as a loss and know we all know what the ‘gap’ is between these two historic programs.
Husker Fan, there is no reason to let this game mess with your Husker MoJo. We aren’t competing against Oklahoma and we are a couple of years from giving the Oklahoma’s and Missouri’s of the world serious challenges on a consistent basis.
There is no reason to complain about this coordinator or that play call or starting this player over another.
In the end, it probably wouldn’t of mattered at all. The bottom line: what worked and has been successful for Nebraska the past 3 games didn’t work against OU.
The key for the Cornhuskers now is making sure we take care of Kansas State and Colorado, two games against evenly matched opponents that we should be competitive in and win.
Kansas, on the other hand, obviously has more talent and a better squad, and a win against them would be the highlight of the season (and avenge the 76-39 loss last year).
Let’s take a look at HG’s expectations for the rest of the season:
3-0 to end the season would be fantastic.
2-1 to end the season would make this a successful season.
1-2 to end the season would be disappointing but would be a step forward from last season.
0-3 to end the season would be incredibly frustrating and negate a lot of progress this team would make.
Nothing can be taken for granted. There are no ‘easy’ wins at this part of the schedule.
Husker Fans, we need to understand this and not get discouraged by the loss to OU. OU is a superior team from special teams to defense.
There aren’t to many Huskers who could start of OU.
Bo Pelini and the rest of the Cornhuskers coaching staff need to recover much like they recovered from 3 straight losses (one blowout and two heart-breakers).
Finally, there is something to be said about Bo Pelini coming in and achieving some success, but also getting his ass handed to him by better teams and more seasoned coaches. I don’t want Bo Pelini to achieve success easily. I want him to figure out how to beat teams with more talent than us, while recruiting hard to get more talented Huskers.
The gap is wide and we have a long way to go, but we’ve already seen too much progress this season to get discouraged over an ass-kicking from one of the best teams (and coaches) in the land.

- Father of Oklahoma player Landry Jones , who was falsely accused, along with Sam Bradford of being arrested on drug charges on an internet posting by a Huskers fan, is looking into legal options.
James W. Conradt, a Nebraska football fan living in Austin, Texas, said he did not mean to hurt Oklahoma quarterbacks Sam Bradford and Landry Jones with his Internet hoax, according to a story posted on The Oklahomans’ website late Wednesday.
“I want to express my deepest apologies to the families,” Conradt said Wednesday night after his story was reported as fact by at least two Texas radio stations. “That’s the thing I’m regretful about. I didn’t want to hurt anyone.”
Landry’s father, Kevin Jones, indicated Conradt’s apology may not be enough.
“I’m going to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law,” Jones said. “I’ve got deep enough pockets to do it.”
- That being said, Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione is looking to restore the ‘goodwill’ of the OU-Nebraska rivalry.
- Write it down, Cody Green is a Husker.
“My commitment is solid,” said Green. “I took my time to make this decision and now having made it, that’s it. I’m going to Nebraska.”
- BigRedNetwork asks: Have you peaked as a Huskers Fan? HG answer: Yes, in 1997-98 season. But those memories have faded and have been replaced with Solich/Callahan memories. So it’s time to rebuild and peak again.
