Cornhuskers raking in the dough from PPV
Filed Under Media on Huskers, TV Schedule | Leave a Comment
Nebraska netted close to $1 million dollars from the 3 PPV games, most likely this is more money than they would have received if the games were nationally televised. Go figure.
Estimates are that the Western Michigan game received 50,000 buys, with SDSU and NMS pegged at 40,000 each.
By comparison, last seasons PPV netted 24,000 (Ball State) and 22,000 (Oklahoma State) buys.
More tidbits:
FSN representatives have told NU officials there’s no doubt Husker games have more pay-per-view sales than about any other team in the country.
“FSN has also done games with Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, and the Nebraska games we have done have performed well in comparison with those schools,” said Geoff Goldman, FSN Midwest’s media relations manager.
Also, from Omaha:
Boehm said NU would use its best judgment on potential pay-per-view telecasts through October and November. Fox Sports Net windows only allow for 11:30 a.m. or 6 p.m. kickoffs.
“We want to make sure we’re not overdoing it,” Boehm said. “We’re going to really think about what we do from here on out. It’s advantageous for our fans that we don’t go to too many night games or too many 11:30 games.”
Bo Pelini = Money Maker.

The Nebraska “brand” has lost enough luster in the past six seasons that the Big 12’s TV partners (ABC, ESPN, Fox Sports Net and Versus) are unwilling to overlook a pillowy soft opponent on a given week. What’s more, improved balance in the Big 12 has given the TV folks plenty of other intriguing options.
